Message From John Morton, Chairman of the ESA

"The dynamics of our industry are in continuous flux," notes ESA Chairman John Morton as he looks back on a productive time that has passed since our last newsletter. The autumn meeting in Düsseldorf brought members together for valuable divisional meetings and a 'Blue Sky' thinking day that was marked by enthusiasm and vigorous debate. The discussions generated many promising ideas for the ESA’s future, and we look forward to developing them to their full potential. Read more

PFAS Restriction Update

The European Chemical Agency’s (ECHA) scientific committees for Risk Assessment (RAC) and
Socio-economic Analysis (SEAC) reviewed PFAS restrictions in the petroleum, mining, textiles, and food packaging sectors. While petroleum and mining evaluations are provisionally concluded, discussions on other sectors will continue in the November meetings.

Increasing Demand for Biodegradable Solutions

As part of our ESG programme, the ESA is exploring sustainable alternatives to plastic spacers for spiral wound gaskets and polyethylene (PE) plastic foil, examining biodegradable solutions and paper-based replacements. Our ESG Director Sandy Van den Broeck has initiated discussions with paper and cardboard manufacturers to find viable solutions. Read more
